Many people visit the beach to enjoy their free time, but imagine coming across something shaped like a monster while taking a walk—it would naturally frighten you. However, the "monster" is actually harmless. It is a sculpture made entirely of various types of plastic waste collected from the beach. Standing over 50 feet tall, the sculpture was created to raise awareness about the harmful effects of environmental pollution.
This massive sculpture has been created on the beach of Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. Many refer to it as the "plastic monster." It was made with the support of the Bidyananda Foundation, a voluntary organization, and the local administration. A team of artists from the Fine Arts Department of Dhaka University collaborated to bring this initiative to life. Additionally, two smaller sculptures, each 15 feet tall, stand on either side of the main sculpture.
Millions of people visit Cox's Bazar beach every year, and this sculpture attracts countless tourists. It sparks curiosity among visitors, encouraging them to reflect on how plastic waste is consuming our world like a monster, growing larger each day. This thought-provoking initiative aims to raise awareness about the impact of plastic pollution. As a result, it is hoped that people will become more mindful of their use of plastic, leading to a reduction in plastic consumption and an increase in recycling and reuse.
